O'Donnells Crisps have done it again! 5 awards including 2 gold at The Free From Food awards 2021. A quote from the judges about the crisps category stated " In the end, the winners ran away with it".

O'Donnells Gold awards were for Furrows, crinkle cut in cider vinegar and sea salt flavour and Ballymaloe Relish and Cheddar cheese flavour crisps. Silver for Furrows Cheese & Red Onion flavour, Bronze for Irish cider vinegar & sea salt flavour and finally Merit for O'Donnells Hickory smoked flavour crisps.

The FreeFrom Food Awards Ireland was established by Irish coeliac and entrepreneur, John Burke. O'Donnells Crisps are all gluten free.

We are proud to say that this year we have reduced the film on our core range (50g and 125g) by 18% and our 6 pack multipacks by 30%

Many of Ireland's brightest stars dressed up in their finest Hollywood glamour for the event which took place virtually on 6th March and was broadcasted on YouTube on 7th March 2021.

A host of celebrity guests, influencers and social media stars attended and 19 awards were presented to the winners of each category.

Obviously we love our crisps but The Great Taste Awards are The world's largest awards, blind tasted by experts so what a major seal of approval that means to us!

Below are some of the judges comments on our 4 flavours which each won a 1-star Great Taste Award:

O'Donnells Hickory smoked crisps:

"Superb texture, Terrific crunch. This flavour is big, bold, spicy and moreish, this is a crisp that you keep going back to for more"

"A good proportion of large sized crisps with an even golden bake and smokey sweet aroma. There is plenty of sweetness and salt and a fun little kick of chilli."

O'Donnells Irish Sea Salt crisps:

"Very attractively bubbled crisps. It's always good to see the whole crosscut potato with the skins. These are good, simply flavoured crisps that have been handled very well. The level of salt is just right."

O'Donnells Mature cheese & Red onion crisps:

"Beautiful golden crunchy crisps. The crackle of these crisps is on a high decibel level.These are not going to be popular in quiet moments in the cinema. The delivery of the two main flavours is direct and honest. The cheese hit is bold and the sweet onion flavour complements and balances well. A crisp that truly fits the description."

"Fabulous looking well-fried thin crisps with a great crunch. The flavour of the potato stands up well to the well judged cheese flavour which brings both a sweet and savoury note. These crisps have been produced with great finesse: from the preparation of the thin skin-on slices, to the frying and to the added seasoning so that all the ingredients are working in harmony to produce a great tasting crisp that really has the cheese and onion taste.

To celebrate our 10 year anniversary, our O'Donnells hand cooked crisp range has been updated with a great new look.

We have applied new designs to all of our great flavours and updated our logo on our packs to make it more prominent on the front of pack. To mark this important 10 year milestone, we have added our celebratory anniversary ribbon to the front of our packs.

As our O’Donnells hand cooked crisps have won so many awards over the last 10 years, we have also added the most recent award logos to the front of each pack.

Keep an eye out in store for our new packs, especially our Sweet Chilli which has had a PINK makeover but it’s still the same great taste inside!

Over the last ten years, Ireland has fallen in love with the award-winning taste of O’Donnells Crisps. In fact, our hand-cooked crisps are Ireland’s favourite. What’s the secret? Well, it all starts with the perfect potato. The O’Donnell family have lived on Seskin Farm in Tipperary for seven generations and we are proud to use almost 300 years of expertise to bring you O’Donnells, the finest hand-cooked crisps.

It wasn’t an easy start, Ed O’Donnell was a young farmer straight out of agricultural college with a dream to make crisps from his potatoes but he was not a trained chef or crisp maker. When Ed attempted to make his first batch of hand-cooked crisps at home he almost blew up the kitchen! So, he went on a crisp manufacturing course and called in the help of crisp experts. As it turned out Ed knew exactly what he wanted because he sent back 15 versions of the mature cheese and onion flavour crisps until he had the perfect mouth watering flavour we all know and love today.

To make our six delicious award winning flavours, we use 100% sunflower oil, no artificial colours or flavours and no added MSG.
